The first year of the 7-year Mahamudra Transmission, teachings and practice of Mahamudra Ocean of Definitive Meaning, the very text compiled by The 9th Gyalwang Karmapa Wangchuk Dorje (1556-1603), bestowed by Guru Vajradhara The 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa at Tergar Monastery in Bodhgaya concluded on 7th April 2016.

This transmission was attended by Yonge Mingyur Rinpoche, Bo Gangkar Rinpoche, Chungpo Gyalton Rinpoche, Pong Re Rinpoche, Tana Drubgyu Rinpoche, Tsewang Kunchab Rinpoche and over 800 disciples of Guru Vajradhara from 45 countries who braved the sweltering heat in Bodhgaya to receive the unbroken lineage of Mahamudra teachings and transmissions.

Since the preliminary (ngondro) practices are deeply emphasized in this text this year the teachings concluded up to and included refuge, bodhicitta and prostrations.

A comprehensive practice chart to enable students to systematically practice was also provided by Guru Vajradhara to facilitate the practice commitment for year one up to the second year's transmission.

The transmission and teachings of first six days was devoted to the practice of Shiney (Calm Abiding), contemplating the Four Ordinary Preliminaries and the First Extraordinary Preliminary purification oriented practice of 110000 Refuge and Bodhicitta recitations together with Prostrations.

On the penultimate day, several hundred attendees also received refuge from Guru Vajradhara and all students renewed their Bodhisattva vows. Following this, Guru Vajradhara graciously bestowed the Vajrasattva empowerment. Afterwards, the gathering offered traditional body, speech and mind symbols to give thanks and to the long life of Guru Vajradhara.

The weeklong Mahamudra transmission and teachings was filled with special learning, insights and blessings. It concluded with dedicating to all those who worked hard to bring this sacred event to fruition.

Immediately after the transmission Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa was escorted to the Kagyu Monlam Office by Lama Karma Chodrak, Chief Executive of Kagyu Monlam where he was received in full honor and traditionally offered a tea ceremony. Upon this, Guru Vajradhara was eagerly awaited by his more than 800 Mahamudra students and volunteers in the Kagyu Monlam Pavilion where a group photo was taken.

The same, last evening a grand Ganachakra feast was held at Tergar monastery in the presence of Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa, joined by Rinpoches and all the students. Groups and individual students presented special performances with utmost devotion in the tradition of the Guru - disciple bond. The feast concluded to the resounding of deeply profound words by Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa. His last words of assurance and confidence were:

"We will we will wake up!

We will wake up from ignorance

We will wake up to Buddhahood!"

April 10, before leaving Tergar monastery to Delhi, Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa was lead into the main shrine hall of Tergar monastery where all the Tergar monks, headed by Yonge Mingyur Rinpoche had gathered to receive Guru Vajradhara's profound advice and blessing, with a group photo being taken afterwards.
