In light of the terrible news of the human tragedy currently taking place in Tibet, the 12th Kenting Tai Situpa immediately asked monks, nuns and the lay Dharma community of Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat to conduct prayers for everyone affected by the conflict. 'Every person and every sentient being wishes to be happy and no one wishes to suffer. The only purpose of the teachings of Lord Buddha is to fulfill this wish. Therefore it is our duty as followers of Buddha to pray and seek the blessing of the Buddha for the same. I want all of you to pray very sincerely for those who have lost their lives and who are injured, as well as those who are suffering in Tibet. Because this is happening right now, I also want you to include all the other human beings and all mother sentient beings elsewhere in this world and beyond.' Ongoing prayers include one hundred thousand Tara prayers (Mother of Compassion) and a special gathering for Monlam prayer (sacred supplication of great Boddhisatvas). An additional offering of ten thousand Butter Lamps was conducted in the main court yard of the main monastic complex on the evening of March 19th 2008.
