Group practice of Prostrations and Refuge began recently at Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat. This is the first of four main foundation practices (Ngondro) from the on-going series of Mahamuda Ocean of Certainty tansmissions currently being given by Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa.

Prostrations and Refuge are the first of the main foundation practices in order to establish the body, mind and speech as a proper container for all further practices and ultimately as a cause of enlightenment. This is accomplished as defilements - mainly physical ones - are purified along with pride, arrogance and various obscurations caused by physical and intellectual overactivity.

Students who have not yet completed the one-hundred-thousand prostations and refuge recitations required for the first foundation, have now started this strenuous process.

Others, including Lamas who've completed the traditional three-year-retreat and those who've properly completed the four foundations for Mahamudra (Ngondro) in the past under a lineage masters' instruction, will do the four practices for five days each followed by the other practices taught during the transmissions.

Those monks and nuns who have yet to complete the four foundation practices work exclusively on Ngondro between transmissions from Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa.
