To fulfill the wishes of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Drodul Trinley Wangi Dorje, the Kagyupa International Monlam Trust requested and organized a two-day teaching on Maitreya's Aspiration by Guru Vajradhara His Holiness the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa, who is an emanation of Maitreya. These pre-Monlam teachings, which are the preliminary part of the 38th Kagyu Monalam Chenmo, took place on January 14 and 15, 2024 at the Kagyu Monlam Pavilion in Bodhgaya. To an audience of more than seven thousand monastic and lay devotees from all over the world, Guru Vajradhara presented a word-by-word explanation of the aspiration made by the Buddha's regent Lord Maitreya. He elucidated the various topics included in this prayer, such as the purification and accumulation through the seven-branch prayer, instructions on how to practice the six paramitas, training the mind in loving kindness, compassion, and bodhichitta, as well as the key points of the view of emptiness and selflessness. Guru Vajradhara concluded the teaching by encouraging everyone to cultivate loving kindness and respect for all sentient beings through seeing that we are all equal in essence.
