Guru Vajradhara His Holiness the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa presided over the Kagyu Monlam at the request of the Kagyu International Monlam Trust. Guru Vajradhara first conducted the three-day pre-Monlam program. This program included pith instructions on Maitreya's Aspiration, the Maitreya empowerment, and the Red Crown Ceremony.

Commencing on January 18, 2024, Guru Vajradhara led the actual Kagyu Monlam held in the Kagyu Monlam Pavilion in the vicinity of the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya. Alongside Kagyu tulkus, lamas, monks, nuns, and monastics and devotees from around the world, with unanimous intention and a unified melody, they chanted over one million repetitions of the Noble Aspiration for Excellent Conduct. They also conducted the reading of the Kangyur and accumulated over one hundred million recitations of the Samaya Vajra mantra.

As part of the Monlam program, on January 19, Guru Vajradhara offered a new set of robes and an alms bowl to the principal Buddha statue in the Mahabodhi Temple. On the 22nd in the morning, Guru Vajradhara led the Kangyur procession at the Mahabodhi Temple. In the afternoon, he granted a special audience to the Kagyu Monlam Members and provided a teaching. On the 25th, Guru Vajradhara led the Guru Yoga for Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche and later viewed the special address by the Gyalwang Karmapa. Following that, he awarded prizes from the Kagyu Gunchoe. Guru Vajradhara concluded the final session of the Monlam with an aspiration for the well-being of the Dharma and sentient beings, sealing it with a special dedication of merit.

The 38th Kagyu Monlam auspiciously concluded at 7:30 in the evening with pleasing chants of songs of realization and Dharma melodies of meditative experiences. This was followed by the lighting of candles and electric lamps accompanied by the chanting of the melodious Lamp Prayer.
