Retreat center of Six Yogas of Naropa is also called the Lower Retreat Center and Monastery, which was founded by the second Ontrul Wange Dorje Rinpoche. The ninth Kenting Tai Situpa is one who design three years retreat tradition and himself took responsible of retreat master and since then this three year retreat practice continued in Kagyu Lineage up to current time. Later on the 1st Jamgon Kongtrul and the 1st Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche also became retreat master at this Naropa retreat center. This center was rebuilt by the eleventh Kenting Tai Situpa Pema Wangchog at later time.

This retreat center is conserving many important historical relics: a statue of Gandara Buddha which was carved by Drochema and sage Nagarjuna, using basswood, Yab-Yum Thangkha painted in a special style, a gilded copper statue of Lord Maitreya made by the eleventh Kenting Tai Situpa. Three statues: Marpa, Milarepa and Gampopa, in each of the statues concealed the master's heart, tongue, eye and sariras. A bronze statue of Sakyamuni, it is said that in the opening ceremony for the statue lights emitted from its heart chakra. There are also many thangkhas, sutra annotation, dissertation and texts and illustrations of Six Yogas of Naropa being housed in the center.

The retreat center was rebuilt again in 1983. Six times of three years retreat lamas have been accomplished their practices under the retreat master Very venerable Dupon Lama Yeshe Jungney. Currently retreat master is Lama Gyatso who was appointed by 12th Kenting Tai Situpa after Dupon Lama Yeshe Jungney was expired. Currently the retreat center is under reconstruction under the blessing of the 12th Kenting Tai Situpa and will reopen in 2008.
