On January 20, 2008, at the request of the Tibetan Study Group, the 12th Kenting Tai Situpa gave a Question and Answer period at the India International Center. Kenting Tai Situpa answered many Dharma related questions including: Q. How can we explain aspects of the Dharma to those who aren’t familiar with the Dharma? A. You should understand the subject very clearly, and then you can help most people understand. But even then, some people might not understand because for the time being they don’t want to understand! (Laughter) Q. Ideally, what should we, as practitioners, be doing with the 7 – 8 hours we sleep every night? A. One should do Dream Yoga. Advanced Dream Yoga is only taught in the traditional three-year retreat as part of the Six Yogas of Naropa. However, a basic practice would be to maintain awareness as you fall asleep and then to remain aware that you are dreaming from inside the dream. Then just practice your meditation as usual! The teaching of the lineage mentions that the effects of dream meditation are the same as practicing meditation while awake.
