Thirty-nine years ago, at the age of 16, Kenting Tai Situpa made a pilgrimage with his Guru Vajradhara H.H. the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, to Bodhgaya. At that time Kenting Tai Situpa made the aspiration to make full prostrations from his own monastery to the feet of the Buddha at Maha Bodhi Stupa in Bodhgaya. This is the site where Prince Siddhartha attained enlightenment and became the Buddha Shakyamuni and Bodhgaya is where all 1000 Buddhas prophesied to appear on this planet will attain enlightenment.

Due to conditions and time constraints over the years, Kenting Tai Situpa was unable to fulfill this aspiration. However, during this recent visit to Bodhgaya for the consecration of Tergar Monastery, which is also a main branch of Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat, Kenting Tai Situpa found the opportunity to fulfill this long awaited aspiration. Because it is also such a special month (BUMGYUR DAWA) and the Tibetan New Year, all deeds are multiplied by one hundred thousand times, making this effort immeasurably auspicious.

Starting at 1:00 a.m. the morning of the 12th of February, to avoid traffic and unnecessary public excitement from devotees, Kenting Tai Situpa began his journey. Carrying the process out in sessions of 2 hours over 3 nights, Kenting Tai Situpa arrived at the steps of the Stupa at 4:30 a.m. on the 14th of February.

On the 16th of February, the 10th day of the First month of the lunar calendar, Kenting Tai Situpa paid homage to the Bodhi Tree and made offerings of a Golden Robe to the Buddha and filled offering bowls with 6 precious medicinal herbs. He then said prayers for a half hour and finally touched the feet of the Buddha with his head dedicating the merit for the benefit of all sentient beings, that they may be free of suffering and that harmony and peace on earth will prevail, so that all may achieve enlightenment.
