Karma Shri Nalanda Institute (KSNI), in Sikkim, is a fully accredited institution for higher Buddhist studies. It was founded by His Holiness the Sixteenth Gyalwa Karmapa and is affiliated with the Sampurnnant Sanskrit University of Varanasi. KSNI and the Sanskrit University offer the Acharya degree (master of Buddhist studies) and Ka-rabjampa degree (doctorate of divinity). On the June 15 to 16, 2008 the two days 25th anniversary celebration of this Institute was conducted. During that time representatives from many institutions and communities came to read messages of encouragement. Many high level guests participated in this ceremony as well as representatives from various Monasteries and communities. The Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat representatives were Venerable Gyalton Rinpoche and Khenpo Gyaltsen Phuntsok. In addition Khenpo Gyaltsen Phuntsok delivered a speach relating how the Karma Kagyu Buddhist Institute is well established in history and how it currently flourishes in many monasteries, particularly Karma Shri Nalanda Institute in Sikkim, India under the guidance of His Holiness Pal Gyalwa Karmapa. The two-day event at Rumtek ended colorfully and auspiciously.
