Lama Tenam, the personal secretary to Kenting Tai Situpa, has spent the past two months traveling within the United States and Canada. The focus of his visit was to provide lectures at many North American Palpung Centers and various organizations. Centers visited include the Sukhasiddhi Center in San Rapheal as well as the Command and General Staff College (C&GSC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas where he shared thoughts on the Buddhist perspective of how it is the responsibility of all human beings to cultivate peace and harmony within their personal lives and also in a broader context to society in general.

Lama Tenam also visited Charlottesville Palpung Choekyi Gyaltsen Buddhist Study and Meditation Center. During that visit he had the pleasure of a tour of the University of Virginia library which houses early printings of the Declaration of Independence among other rare historical documents and books. In addition he also visited the Kansas Palpung study group where he shared thoughts on the importance of the Karma Kagyu Lineage. While there he was invited to the Command and General Staff College (C&GSC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas where he spoke with a group of officers and participated in a Q&A session on Buddhism.

While at the Vancouver Palpung Center Lama Tenam gave a talk on the connection between the Karmapa and the Kenting Tai Situpa lineages along with an introduction on the main seats of Karma Kagyu lineage.

Most of Lama Tenam’s time on this visit was spent at the San Jose Palpung Center where he participated in the various functions of the Center.

While in San Jose he delivered scholarships to several students and offered encouragement to those students for their continued studies. The Palpung organization believes strongly that education is the cornerstone of our future and that young people are the key elements for a better world. Therefore, the organization offered these scholarships to college bound students in order to give them the opportunity to succeed and become role models for other young people.

Lama Tenam’s two month visit was very encouraging for all the Palpung Centers and their members as well as to many other organizations and Centers who know of his wisdom and knowledge.
