For three days, from Febuary 4-6, 2009, Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa and his entourage visited Shravasti. Shravasti is the holy place where Lord Buddha Shakya Muni spent the longest period after his enlightenment, including a 25 rainy season retreat according to most historical records.

Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa visited two main historical places in Sharavasti on February 5th a day which day falls on the 10th of lunar calender and which is therefore also auspiciously Guru Rinpoche day.

Rinpoche's first stop was at the Boddhi Tree. According to history, this Boddhi Tree was planted during Lord Buddha Shakya Muni's lifetime.

There, Chamgon Tai Situpa and sangha performed the puja of the 16th Arhats and the long Monlam (aspiration prayers) in front of the Boddhi Tree. Afterwards, a scarf offering was made and beautifully accepted by the ancient holy Boddhi Tree.

The second location visited by Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa was where Lord Buddha Shakya Muni meditiated. Here, Chamgon Tai Situpa remained in post-meditation for some time and then suddenly one gentlemen named Gopal arrived with one hundred and eleven clay statues of Buddha Shakya Muni which he graciously offered with full devotion and respect to Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa. This was very auspicious.

When holy and sacred places are visited by holy masters it often happens that these auspicious signs occur. Such was the case during this recent visit of Chamgon Tai Situpa to Shravasti.
