In recent days many parts of the world have faced the wrath of nature. In the Gulf of Mexico 184 million gallons of crude oil has now leaked out of the ground causing the loss of many lives and the ongoing suffering of millions of other beings. It is one of the largest environmental disasters in history.

In Russia, devastating wild fires have consumed around 400,000 acres of forest and claimed many lives as well as leaving 4000 people homeless and others left to breathe through the cloud of thick black smoke that lingers.

Pakistan, Bangladesh and China and many other parts of world are facing natural disasters including flooding, tornadoes, fires, land-slides and earthquakes. These natural catastrophes have claimed thousands of lives and thousands more lives live on in suffering as a result.

Just a few days ago, in the northern part of India in Leh Ladakh a devastating cloudburst caused flash flooding overnight, washing away buildings, killing more than 100 people and leaving more than 300 people still missing and also in Amdo Drugchu had a worst landslides, washing away houses, killing more than 1000 people and leaving more than 1000 people still missing.

In reaction to all these tragedies the entire Sangha of Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat recently assembled to perform a grand Monlam which included the lighting of 10,000 butter lamps in the court yard of the main Monastery. These Monlam prayers are dedicated to all the victims of all recent world tragedies. May Peace prevail in world.
