From December 15 to 19, the Very Venerable Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche completed the second year of the Moonbeams of Mahamudra transmission. Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche is a present day Yogi who follows in the footsteps of the Kagyu forefathers. Moonbeams of Mahamudra is a text composed by Dakpo Tashi Namgyal that elucidates the stages of the practice of Mahamudra.

Over four hundred international Dharma students from more than forty countries participated in this transmission that took place at Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat. The teaching was requested and organized by the Palpung Institute of Buddhist Studies.

Rinpoche completed this year’s teaching by giving clear, detailed and complete instructions and guidance covering both the direct and implicit meanings of each section of the Moonbeams of Mahamudra. He offered a presentation of the common and uncommon Samadhis, and also explained how to practice the union of Shamatha and Vipashyana and how to alternate between meditation and post-meditation. He also dispelled all doubts with detailed examinations of the difficult points of the text. His pith instructions were based on his own extraordinary wisdom and presented in his own particular teaching style.
