On the afternoon of December 18, Guru Vajradhara the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa gave a teaching to more than four hundred Dharma students from many different American, European and Asian countries at the main shrine hall of the Palpung Sherabling Monastic College. Guru Vajradhara offered the international audience clear instructions and guidance. He began with general advice on the meaning of positive and negative actions and continued by explaining three ways of not getting distracted particular to Buddhist practitioners. If we aspire to attain the state of liberation and omniscience, we should not get distracted by worldly samsaric activities and concerns for this life alone. Secondly, we should not get distracted by positive spiritual qualities that come from renunciation, study and Dharma activities. We should also not get distracted by meditative experiences. In brief, we should do our best to cut through all kinds of grasping and remain focused and undistracted.
