On July 6, 2022, the 87th birthday of His
Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the sole refuge for all sentient beings of the
three realms, the master of all the Buddha's teachings on this earth, and a
great leader of world peace, was celebrated at the main shrine hall of Palpung
Sherabling Monastic College.
The celebration ceremonies began at 9 am
with tulkus, khenpos, lamas, directors, and staff of various departments of the
monastic seat chanting verses of auspiciousness, which was followed by an
offering of a mandala along with representations of body, speech, and mind in
front of a sacred image of His Holiness, a tea and sweet rice offering, and
long-life prayers. After that, everyone offered a white ceremonial scarf to His
Holiness the Dalai Lama's sacred image, which liberates upon seeing.
The program continued with a contemporary
birthday celebration including an offering of birthday cakes and sweets along with
chanting auspicious verses, and a presentation of calligraphies and drawings by
the students of the monastic seat’s Monastic Primary School. At the end, 87
medicinal plants and trees equaling His Holiness's age were planted for His
Holiness's longevity and for the flourishing of his enlightened activities.
