In the context of the Tukdam and Meditation Research Project, the Russian research group led by Professor Svyatoslav Medvedev conducted a research session at Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat to investigate Tummo practitioners. This session was organized in collaboration with Palpung Munishasan Dharma Chakra Sangh. Taking place over eight days, from December 14 to 21, 2023, this marked the second visit of Russian scientists to the monastery for the study of meditation effects. During their visit, the scientists had the opportunity to meet with Guru Vajradhara His Holiness Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa.
A group of seven tulkus and lamas from the monastic seat participated in this research. To facilitate the investigation, interviews about meditative experiences were conducted with each participant. A unique combination of EEG (electroencephalography) and thermography methods was used simultaneously, both during and outside meditation sessions. This approach allowed the scientists to record brain activity and changes in body temperature distribution simultaneously, providing insights into the interactions between the brain and body during Tummo practice.
