On November 1, 2026, the twenty-second day of the ninth Tibetan month, the auspicious day commemorating the Buddha’s descent from Tushita heaven, a total of fifty monastics entered the traditional three-year, three-fortnight retreat at three retreat centers of Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat in India: two retreat centers for monks and one retreat center for nuns, all three following Naropa’s tradition. The retreatants include tulkus, khenpos, monks, and nuns residing at the monastic seat, as well as monks and nuns from affiliated monasteries in India, Nepal, Bhutan, and other places.

Over the course of three years and three fortnights, under the guidance of the two resident retreat masters, the retreatants will practice the Six Yogas of Naropa, Maitripa’s Mahamudra instructions, and the tantras transmitted by Lord Marpa. They will also engage in the general stages of both the path of means and the path of liberation of the Dagpo Kagyu tradition, as well as the approach and accomplishment practices of the vast ocean of tantras of the New and Old Traditions.

With unwavering determination to engage in the practices of accumulating merit and purifying obscurations, and with aspirations and prayers for their meditative experiences and realizations to develop and progress, the retreatants entered a strictly sealed retreat.
