Year Three of the Words of My Perfect Teacher Transmission

From December 21 to 25 2018, His Eminence Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, a crown ornament of the Dharma and all beings, continued with the transmission of the Words of My Perfect Teacher, which is in its third of five years. Dharma students came from all corners of the world to attend this transmission at Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat that was requested and organized by the Palpung Institute of Buddhist Studies.

Words of My Perfect Teacher is a commentary on the preliminary practices of the Longchen Nyingthig (The Heart Essence of the Great Expanse), a Dzogchen cycle which belongs to the Ati Yoga, the pinnacle of nine yanas, and is an ornament of realization of the Primordial Buddha Samantabhadra. Its first lineage holder was Garab Dorje, who attained the vidyadhara level of Spontaneous Presence. The lineage was then passed on to Shri Singha, Vimalamitra, Vairochana and so forth in the manner of one butter lamp lighting another.

Following the basic structure of the root text of the Words of My Perfect Teacher, Rinpoche enriched his explanations with quintessential instructions that he received from his Gurus and his own vivid experience. Rinpoche taught the general presentation of the Triple Refuge in Buddha, Dharma and Sangha according to the Foundational Vehicle, as well as the essence, distinctions, precepts and benefits of the Refuge according to the Unexcelled Vehicle and particularly according to Dzogchen.

In connection with the practice of the Four Immeasurables – loving kindness, compassion, joy and impartiality – Rinpoche explained how to practice Tonglen, which is a meditation of bringing negative emotions and suffering onto the path. He accompanied his clear, comprehensible and profound commentary on renunciation, bodhicitta and other sections of the text with meditation instructions and illustrated crucial points with practical examples. He also answered the students' questions related to the teaching topics. Thus, Rinpoche fulfilled the hopes of the faithful students in accordance with the Dharma.
