First Day of the Birthday Celebration Program

From the 5th of March 2014 to 11th of March 2014 the 60th birthday celebration of Guru Vajradhara the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa Pema Dhonyo Drubpa took place at Tergar Monastery in Bodhgaya, Bihar.

On the 9th of March 2014 at 9am a grand reception for Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa took place in the main shrine hall of Tergar Monastery and according to Tibetan custom, tea and sweet rice was offered. His Eminence Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche gave a long life empowerment and offered 8 Auspicious Symbols and 8 Auspicious Substances. Two Khenpos of the Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat also offered 5 Auspicious Accumulations and after this there was an explanation given of the Mandala. Then offerings that represent Body, Speech and Mind were made by devotees from across the world which was followed by a public audience.

In the afternoon an introduction of the forthcoming events was given in both Tibetan and English, followed by the offering of honorary titles with citation to Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa by several departments of Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat.

Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa and His Eminence Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche then launched the first of three newly published Palpung book titles, entitled "Karma Shingta", "Mahamudra – Ocean of Certainty" and "Kunkhyab Lha Ngai Rangdra", which eulogises Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa. Then, monks and nuns offered holy discourse and debate on Buddhist texts. In conclusion of the program words of gratitude for all involved in the celebration were given.

On the evening of the 9th of March 2014, Ravi Shankar visited the main shrine hall of Tergar Monastery for a short period of time. He was warmly welcomed by Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa and sangha. Both Gurus delivered short speeches on the origin of Hinduism and Buddhism and emphasized their close relationship.

On the evening of the same day, the birthday cake was cut after the birthday song was sung by young monks of Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat which was followed by music and dance from monks and international disciples.
