Second Day of the Birthday Celebration Program

On the 10th of March 2014 from 9am Guru Vajradhar Chamgon Kenting Tai and His Eminence Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche launched the newly published 16 Palpung Lagdeb or "Palpung hand books" for obligatory practices.

Then a series of papers were given by scholars on aspects of Palpung's history which included the practice of Palpung school's rites and rituals, the history of medical practices in India and Tibet with special focus on Tibetan medicine studies in Palpung, a brief paper on Situ Panchen's Tibetan medical training with special reference to his reviving of the dying practice of the Ngul chu tso tru chen mo and precious pills, a brief history of astrology and astronomy practices in India and Tibet with special focus on the Palpung traditions, a brief paper on Sanskrit lexicography in India and Tibet and particularly on the successive masters at Palpung who have worked in this field since the 18th century, a brief paper on how Situ Panchen revived the thangka painting school of the Karma Gardri and finally a discussion on the commentary of the colossal Situ Tibetan grammar or Situ Drel chen comparing it to other grammatical texts.

The day concluded with performances from a range of international devotees who offered their native music and dance customs, which was followed by music and dance from Tibetan, Indian and Himalayan regions.
